Hi everyone,
Thought this would be the best place to jump in right now. Just briefly looking around, what did I miss? Its nice to know your back NEX.
PS. Its also good to see you McAlec and KatoHearts. Also, a lot of reading to catchup on now.

hey speculators!
My previous username was the Hegel one, so I was going to make a snarky post about the owl of minerva only taking flight when the shades of night are gathering, and that being the reason for the tardiness, but I couldn't seem to log in. So here I am! I'm going to try to use the JP Journal entries and some of the other text to compile a pastiche Metacorp Manifesto. I think I might draw from some of the other dropped docs as well. I was thinking some of the Citi files might have good language as well.
I also had one question that I have been thinking about a lot lately but I don't think its been brought up.
What, if any, is the RACIAL significance of JP's New Watts upbringing? There has been a lot of discussion of gender, specifically surrounding Eva and Nex, but what about race? Watts is a historically black neighborhood in Los Angeles, made famous by the Watts Riots in 1965. I don't think race has been much thematized in JP's journal entries, but given the suggestiveness of locating him in Watts, I'm wondering what this might mean. Scholarship on race and ethnic identity on the internet is a burgeoning field--I'm wondering if anyone else has been thinking about this as well.

Laird, word!
I've thought a lot about that, just haven't had any time to post lately.
I know I'm behind again, but I think that talking about that a little more is worthwhile. There's something about New Watts, being underprivileged (as Adnexus or whoever it is who lives in the box is), and even the whole mac/pc dynamic going on that's interesting.
Can a possibly disembodied entity have race? I think the same debate kind of swarmed around the whole EVA thread. If these entities are AI, can they be gendered? Of course gender is totally separate from embodiment, so I'm inclined to think yes, but race is oftentimes predicated by physical traits/biological inheritance, rather than an "identity."
Thoughts?
Maybe you can do something to this effect in the Third challenge from this Nexus? There's a bit that quotes donsoze talking about embodiment (he was also the player who on the EVA thread posted pictures of Samus Aran.) Maybe we need a pic of a black JP?
